The Queenstown Lakes District Council has applied for permission to formalise the use of the helipad on Bob's Peak.
The helipad sits about 400m vertically above the Queenstown town centre, next to the Skyline Enterprises gondola and restaurant.
The 29.5sq m concrete landing pad is owned by the council and leased by Skyline Enterprises.
The resource consent application by the QLDC states the helipad will be used for commercial landing and takeoff of helicopters, and for passenger loading.
If consent is granted, helicopter operators in the area will be able to apply for council.
