A Queenstown hotel was lit with the Tricolour last night as the resort showed solidarity with Paris after 129 people died in terrorist attacks.

A group of locals and businesses banded together to project red, white and blue on to the waterfront Eichardt's Private Hotel last night.

About 60 people congregated outside on Marine Parade, including several French nationals with French flags.

''When we heard, we had to come down - it is really important for us,'' Laurie Durand (23), from the south of France, said.

''It's hard to find words to describe how I feel about what has happened.''

Her friend, Marion Hody (27), from the Alps, said: ''We're so sad and angry.

''The first thing we asked was where were are friends. Social media has been a great help to know all our friends and family are safe.''
