Rugby fans will get the chance to see some of the Southern Region's best club players in action this weekend during the ten-a-side rugby tournament being held in Arrowtown.
Sport facilitator Richie Anderson said there could be as many as 12 teams take the field at Jack Reid Park on Saturday, vying for the title which was last contested in 2007.
Teams from Arrowtown, Wakatipu, Green Island, Marist (Southland), Upper Clutha and Clutha Valley were among the confirmed entrants.
Mr Anderson said the team to beat was Marist, the 2007 champion. However, it all boiled down to game day.
"Arrowtown have been training well, Clutha have been training well. It's who brings the game on the day."
Each team would field 5 forwards and 5 backs playing 8-minute halves, with the semifinals and finals comprising 10-minute halves.
Games would begin at 10am, with the final scheduled for 4.45pm, Mr Anderson said.
There would also be some lunchtime entertainment in the form of a Dash for Cash, in which the first over the line did not always win.
"Previous `winners' have come third and still won because they were in what they were born in.
"If you win the race with clothing on, the guy [not wearing the clothing] will win."
There was no charge for spectators to take in the action on Saturday. However, Mr Anderson recommended sunscreen be packed for the day.
