Tourism ventures proposed

Licence applications for a water ball activity on Lake Wanaka and a disc frisbee attraction on Lismore Park will come before today's Wanaka Community Board meeting.

Larry Richards is seeking a commercial foreshore licence for a water ball activity. The inflated plastic orbs float on the water surface with an occupant zipped inside.

Users will be able to roll around on the lake for 10 minutes in the orb, which will be secured to a rope and be able to travel about 20m.

A report by APL property manager Jo Conroy recommends the licence be granted, subject to final approval following a demonstration of the activity.

Meanwhile, the Disc Golf Wanaka club chaired by Martin Galley is keen to construct and maintain a course on Lismore Park, similar to the Queenstown Gardens course.

Queenstown Lakes District Council parks manager Gordon Bailey has said the Queenstown course is very popular. He said Lismore Park was a suitable venue and the club had agreed to some minor changes on proposed hole 16.

Mr Bailey has recommended the board does not enter a licence to occupy but simply exchanges letters with the club outlining its responsibilities.
