The death of a 60-year-old Mosgiel man, who collapsed while walking the Mount Iron summit track above Wanaka, has been referred to the coroner.
Police said the body of Leslie John Bayliss (60), of Mosgiel, was found on the walking track by a pair of Australian tourists about 9.30am on Saturday.
Constable Bruce McLean, of Wanaka, said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
The Australians who found Mr Bayliss notified emergency services and administered CPR until paramedics arrived at the scene, he said.
Police were called to assist the paramedics, but Mr Bayliss was pronounced dead soon after their arrival.
It was not known whether Mr Bayliss had any pre-existing medical conditions which may have contributed to his death.
It appeared he had been walking alone on the track.
Mr Bayliss was found about 100m away from the 549m summit of Mount Iron on the Wanaka side of the walking track, which takes an average of one hour to complete.
