Trenz expo bosses rapt with exhibitor numbers

The number of buyer attendees for the first Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (Trenz) event in the Southern Lakes has exceeded pre-earthquake targets, the trade expo's managers say.

Speaking after a Tourism Industry Association New Zealand board meeting in Wellington last week, chairman Norm Thompson said there had been "overwhelming interest" from New Zealand tourism operators wanting to exhibit in Trenz, in Queenstown, on May 22 to 25.

"We have reached capacity for exhibitor numbers, with 280 expected to showcase their products and services. These include more than 30 exhibitors who have new products to bring to the international marketplace," Mr Thompson said.

"They will meet about 280 high-quality, targeted international travel buyers from about 30 countries. The buyers are from New Zealand's most important visitor markets, both established and emerging, including Australia, China, Japan, UK and USA."

Mr Thompson said the Queenstown location had helped attract many high-calibre buyers, and managers could not have hoped for better numbers.

More than 900 delegates will attend Trenz, including a strong contingent of international and domestic media.
