Kitten adoption day plan

A ''very busy'' kitten season has kept Queenstown Cat Rescue occupied with caring for and rehoming kittens.

To help the rehoming process, a kitten adoption day will be held next Saturday from noon to 5pm in Fernhill.

Queenstown Cat Rescue co-founder Ruth de Reus said there would be around 15 kittens which she hoped would go to new homes.

''We have already adopted out a small number of kittens but aim to have an adoption day to enable people to come visit the kittens in the one place.

''Otherwise, people will need to visit individual homes that are fostering kittens.''

The breeding season continues and Ms de Reus said the cat rescue was still picking up kittens, many of them stray.

''We are always looking for volunteer fosterers, due to the high number of kittens that we are getting.

''This will continue through until March-April as kittens are still being born.''

She said this year was busier than last, although the busiest season was 2009, the year cat rescue was formed.

The kittens for the adoption day are ones which have been reported by the public in areas throughout Queenstown, Fernhill, Goldfields, Frankton, Arrowtown and Dalefield and removed by rescue volunteers.

The adoption day will be held at 2a Miller Pl, Fernhill, on Saturday, January 19, from noon until 5pm.
