Machine inspected after man’s arm badly injured

The machine in which a Queenstown factory worker seriously injured his arm on Wednesday has been inspected by a WorkSafe NZ investigator.

The worker, who is now being treated at Dunedin Hospital, got his arm trapped in the machine at Remarkable Tortillas.

WorkSafe strategic communications manager Mark Scott said an investigations inspector visited the Industrial Pl factory yesterday. He was unable to say whether workers had resumed operating the machine, or if there had been any major incidents at the factory previously.

The worker, Daniel Figueroa (19), was injured while trying to get a stuck tortilla out of a conveyor, Fairfax reported.

He had suffered broken bones and nerve damage, and would require several operations.

Remarkables Tortillas owner Russel Griffiths was in Australia yesterday and could not be reached for comment.

Mr Figueroa was in a stable condition in Dunedin Hospital last night.
