Council saves on green space contract

The Clutha District Council has awarded new green space maintenance contracts to SouthRoads Ltd.

The contracts are for the maintenance of council-owned parks and reserves across the district, including berm mowing, as well as the maintenance of public toilets and cemeteries, over the next three years.

The contract was advertised during May and six tenders were received. The new contract takes effect on July 1.

It was awarded to SouthRoads Ltd for $1.75 million for three years, which was $808,500 less than the estimated $2.56 million.

District Assets Manager Jules Witt said that because the successful tender had resulted in reduced costs, there had been a significant reduction in projected green space maintenance costs for the coming year.

In Lawrence and Tapanui, these savings will be passed on this year to help minimise rates increases in those centres.
