Fr Dan Cummings, of Lawrence, performs the blessing at the dedication of crosses at the Lawrence Peace Garden on Wednesday.

A half-hour afternoon ceremony opened the Clutha town's field of remembrance where 84 crosses, one for each of the Lawrence-Tuapeka region's men and women killed in conflict, have been installed by the Lawrence RSA and the community.

Members of the community were joined by members of the Dunedin RSA, Clutha-Southland MP Todd Barclay, Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan, district councillors and community board members, as well as representatives from the police and Fire Service, to mark the occasion.
