One-way pub door policy

Two South Otago pubs are adopting a "one-way door" policy and will not allow entry after 1.30am, beginning tonight.

Rosie's Bar at the Rosebank Lodge and Southy's Bar at the Hotel South Otago in Balclutha will be introducing the policy, which means patrons cannot enter after 1.30am but can leave at any time until closing at 3am.

Rosebank Lodge and Hotel South Otago are owned by the Clutha Licensing Trust.

Trust general manager David Kenny said it would keep a close eye on how the policy worked.

"The policy aims to try and tidy up that end of the evening. Sometime people show up just to get a ride home, and create a bottleneck."

Posters were up in the hotels and door staff would remind patrons of the new policy, he said.

Police suggested adopting the policy for the two pubs as they were "deemed to be more like nightclubs" than others.
