Constable Craig Gordon, of Balclutha, said a woman (25) was travelling north on State Highway 1 when she lost control of her Subaru Impreza, which hit a culvert and rolled, ending up on its roof.
He said she had freed herself from the extensively damaged car before emergency services arrived about 5.15pm.
Tania Good contacted the Otago Daily Times yesterday appealing for any information about her daughter's missing bichon-shitzu cross puppy, Baxter.
She said her daughter was recovering well from concussion, bruising and sore ribs after she crashed at Moneymore, about 5km south of Milton.
The woman told police she had turned to check on Baxter when she crashed, but when emergency services arrived there was no sign of the tan and white dog.
The 5-month-old puppy was last seen on Thursday evening, running towards Milton.
Anyone with information on Baxter's whereabouts is asked to contact Tania Good on 027 733-3045 or email tania.good@icloud.com.
