Manager certificate approved

A Lalaland employee has been granted a duty manager’s certificate.

Tobias Fay appeared before the district licensing committee at a hearing in Queenstown earlier this month. His application had been opposed by police because he did not have at least six months’ experience in New Zealand, having started his employment in June.

At the hearing, Mr Fay, originally from Australia, provided evidence of nine years’ experience in his home country, along with various qualifications.

In their decision, committee members said the point of contention was whether "the Australian experience" could be used to justify the approval of a manager’s certificate.

While the drinking culture and related problems in both countries were "similar", laws and regulations might differ.

In approving the application, the committee said Mr Fay was suitable and had the knowledge to hold a manager’s certificate. He had attained the licence controller qualification, passed the Queenstown Lakes District Council test and displayed a good understanding of the object of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
