Entries are now open for the ILT Murihiku art awards, a competition which celebrates creativity and innovation in visual arts.
A collaboration between the Invercargill Public Art Gallery and the Southland Art Society, the awards showcase a range of contemporary art across different mediums.
He Waka Tuia manager Sarah Brown said the awards gave visual artists across New Zealand a chance to showcase their talents and be celebrated for their art.
"The ILT Murihiku art awards are an opportunity for contemporary artists working throughout the motu to connect with and be inspired by their peers."
The awards were open to all forms of visual art including printmaking, digital or video, jewellery design and sculpture, she said.
"Artists dedicate so much of their time, energy, and themselves into their work."
The awards have a prize pool of $20,000, with the winner of the Supreme Awards set to win $8000.
Artists can submit up to two original visual art pieces for selection. They must be one-off original works completed within the past 12 months and not previously shown within Murihiku.
An exhibition celebrating the works of the winners will run at He Waka Tuia from October 3 to November 15.
Last year the awards had 155 entries with judges selecting 67 works across seven categories as finalists.
Artists have until August 21 to submit their work for the awards, winners will be announced on October 2. — Allied Media
