High time

A northbound Southerner goes past the Arthurton Railway Station in 1973.

At 123m above sea level, the station, near the Otago-Southland boundary, was one of the highest points on the line between Bluff and Christchurch.

The area was named after Mr Arthur who was the traffic manager in about 1878.
