Training squad named for Beko league

Netball South has named a training squad for next year’s Beko national league.

A couple of trials of 40 netballers took place over the past few weeks before the squad was reduced to 17 players.

Those not selected will be placed in individual programmes and could be called into the squad should a player be injured.

A feature of the squad is the selection of St Hilda’s Collegiate twins Georgia and Kate Heffernan.

Kiana Pelasio, of Otago Girls’ High School, has also been picked for the squad.

The Netball South team for next year has plenty of living up to do.

This year’s side won the inaugural competition.

The Beko league is a tier down from the new semi-professional domestic league introduced to replace the ANZ Championship.
