Surf life-saving: Three from St Clair club to represent

St Clair Surf Life Saving Club member and Olympic swimmer Andy McMillan has been named in the New Zealand open team to compete in the 2013 International Surf Rescue Challenge.

McMillan was part of the 4x200m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay teams at the 2012 Olympic Games in London and captained the New Zealand Black Fins team to the world life-saving title at Rescue 2012 last November.

St Clair club members Andrew Trembath and Carina Doyle were also named in the under-20 team for the 2013 International Surf Rescue Challenge, which will be held in Onjuku, Japan from September 19 to 23.

The annual competition between Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, United States, Great Britain and Japan started in 1939 as the Trans-Tasman Series, between New Zealand and Australia.

McMillan is one of three 2012 Olympians named in the team, alongside gold medallist kayaker Lisa Carrington, of Mount Maunganui, and swimmer Natasha Hind, of Lyall Bay.
