Firefighters were forced to deal with ''resistance'' to their attempts to put out a fire near Waikouaiti last night.
Waikouaiti volunteer firefighters responded to a call to a rubbish fire on a hillside about 5.30pm and were meet by several people at the scene.
Fire Service communications shift manager Brent Dunn said ‘‘there was resistance from people there'' and police were called to assist but were not required.
