Women robbed and intimidated

Police want help from the public after two separate incidents in Dunedin where one woman was robbed and another intimidated.

A 56-year-old woman was left feeling shaken after a man approached her and asked her for money while she was waiting for a shuttle bus at Dunedin railway station at 7.20am yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Mel Aitken said the man continued to hassle her, intimidating her until she called for help and he left.

The man was described as 180cm tall, medium build, Maori or Polynesian with short wavy hair.

He was wearing dark clothing and was tidy in appearance.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the man or had been approached in similar circumstances, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

Police also want to speak to anyone who was in the Princes St or Exchange area on Thursday about 9pm after a woman was robbed of her handbag.

Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said more than two hours after the incident, where the woman was knocked to the ground receiving a minor injury to her hand, a 19-year-old man handed himself in to police.

Snr Sgt Brown said police wanted to speak to the two men who attempted to stop the offender.

A man appeared in the Dunedin District court yesterday charged with robbery.
