Air New Zealand is reducing the cost of regional travel for frequent customers who buy a discount card.
Customers buying a $200 Starfish card will receive an automatic 15% discount on all regional airfare types, while those buying an $800 card will get a 30% discount.
The card would be valid for a year, and would initially be on sale for a two-month trial period, the airline said.
The Starfish card would apply to Air New Zealand regional flights, defined as originating from or departing to regional airports. Services between the main city ports of Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, Christchurch and Queenstown were not included.
Air New Zealand group general manager Australasia Bruce Parton said the introduction of the Starfish card followed visits he had made to customers in 20 towns and cities in recent months.
Small to medium businesses would find the card particularly attractive, while the introduction of the card was expected to stimulate demand, Mr Parton said.
The 15% discount card would provide value for regional customers now spending more than $1400 a year with Air New Zealand, with the 30 percent card best for those spending more than $4000 per year.
