Third arrest in supermarket robbery

A third man wanted in connection for the aggravated robbery of the Botany Downs Countdown supermarket has turned himself in to police.

The east Auckland supermarket was robbed late last Tuesday night when two men entered it, one causing a distraction while the other held up checkout operators with a machete.

On Thursday police arrested two men, both employees of the store, in connection with the robbery.

At that time they said they were also looking for 27-year-old Siaumau Leilua, who yesterday turned himself in.

Investigation head Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Pizzini said Leilua was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery and threatening to kill.

"Enquires have led to police finding the majority of the stolen money," Mr Pizzini said.

"It was located north of Auckland. The investigation is continuing to locate to remainder of the money" he said.

Leilua will appear in Counties-Manukau Court tomorrow morning.

Two other men, 20-year-old from Otara and a 21-year-old from Glen Innes, have appeared in Manukau District Court charged with aggravated robbery.
