Palmerston North police are investigating a sexual assault on a woman in the city this morning.
The 22-year-old woman was walking along Fitzherbert Ave away from the city centre about 3.30am when she was approached by a man who grabbed her and sexually assaulted her, said Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan of Palmerston North police.
The woman resisted and the commotion drew the attention of another person, who yelled at the offender and scared him off.
The victim suffered minor injuries and was extremely traumatised.
Police were yet to speak to her, Mr Sheridan said.
Police described the offender as a tall, slim Caucasian, with short, fair hair.
He was thought to be wearing light blue jeans.
