Halfback Piri Weepu has been named on the bench as Hurricanes rugby coach Colin Cooper made two changes to his starting 15 to face the Highlanders in a Super 14 match in Dunedin on Saturday.

Both changes from their 23-13 win over the Brumbies are in the pack, with lock Bryn Evans replacing Jeremy Thrush and openside flanker Karl Lowe returning from illness to replace Nick Crosswell.

All Black Weepu, who missed the trip to Canberra due to his grandfather's death, returns but only on the bench with youngster Tyson Keats retaining his spot inside first five-eighth Aaron Cruden in an unchanged backline.
