DQ updating constitution

Destination Queenstown (DQ) is seeking feedback from members on its new draft constitution.

A resolution to update the regional tourism organisation's rules was passed at last year's annual general meeting.

DQ's communications manager Anika Forsman said submissions on the draft rules were welcome by June 4.

The feedback would then be summarised for a special general meeting on June 15.

The organisation was seeking feedback on a proposed change to the nominations for elections to the board of directors.

Members could choose to keep the status quo where candidates had to be nominated in writing 10 days before the annual meeting or to change the rules so nominations could be made from the floor at the meeting.

Members are any individual or company which has paid the tourism development rate to the Queenstown Lakes District Council.

The board of directors is made up of one representative from the council and five elected directors appointed to represent the accommodation, activities, service, and retail sectors and another from any interest group.

The directors have the ability to co-opt up to three further directors.

DQ has about 1200 members.
