Vet practice closes Christchurch clinic

Queenstown companies also operating in Christchurch continue to count the cost of the earthquake and begin the slow process of returning to business as usual.

Pets n Vets, in Terrace Junction, Frankton, was forced to close its clinic in the city suburb of Ferrymead.

The six staff were safe and could relocate if they chose and 30 animal patients survived, although many fish in large tanks did not.

Co-director Dr Ngaire Mace, of Queenstown, was returning to Christchurch yesterday and said the walls, floor and ceiling of the Ferrymead clinic were damaged.

A large amount of stock had been lost and she was still awaiting a structural assessment.

Ferrymead patients were being transferred to the Ashburton clinic of Pets n Vets.

However, it was unclear whether the Ferrymead clinic was sustainable with fewer clients, as it served the severely affected suburbs of Redcliffs and Sumner, Dr Mace said.
