Property developers will argue for amendments to the Three Parks council plan change at an Environment Court hearing in Wanaka today.

Willowridge Developments Ltd and Mt Cardrona Station Ltd have appealed the Queenstown Lakes District Council's plan change 16, which sets out criteria for the staged construction of Three Parks - the single biggest development undertaken in Wanaka.

Once completed, Three Parks will include a secondary town centre catering for big box retailers and a new supermarket, and about 750 housing units.

It is predicted to provide jobs in the construction for the next 20 years.

Willowridge has been planning Three Parks for eight years and appealed some conditions in the QLDC plan change, after it was adopted by council last December.

Willowridge wants a change to conditions which place restrictions regarding the size of Three Parks' planned retail precinct - effectively a secondary town centre for Wanaka.

Mt Cardrona Station Ltd has also appealed the council plan change.

The property development company is behind a 131ha village planned for land on a terrace above the existing Cardrona township authorised by way of a different council plan change.

The Environment Court hearing is scheduled to start at 10am at Edgewater resort.
