The Catlins Great Escape Coastal Walk will be held for the first time on April 9 and will give walkers the chance to trek across privately-owned land.
Tourism Catlins trustee James Clark said the group had been working with Catlins farmers and landowners to develop a coastal walking opportunity for the public.
The 20km walk will begin at Nugget Point and finish at Newhaven, allowing walkers to discover some of the great views the Catlins area had to offer.
Walkers will be transferred by coach from Newhaven to the Nugget Point lighthouse, where the walk begins.
The route goes to Sandy Bay, Ollies Inlet, Cannibal Bay, Surat Bay and over Jacobs Hill, finishing with an easy walk along the ridge overlooking Pounawea and Catlins Estuary and arriving back at Newhaven for a sausage sizzle.
Tourism Catlins projects co-ordinator Kim Dodds said the groupintended to develop events in the off-season to attract New Zealanders.
A 120km two-day, or 60km one-day bike journey will be held in May also across privately owned and Department of Conservation land.
