Anvils Best Ever has been scratched from the Sires' Stakes heat for 3yr-olds at Forbury Park tonight after pricking a foot yesterday.
Anvils Best Ever was the pre-post favourite after finishing third to Kotare Mach and Arnoux in the heat at Addington last Thursday.
"He was limping when we went to bring him in from the paddock this afternoon.
He had pulled a shoe and it twisted round and a nail poked through his foot," Nigel McGrath, his Weedons trainer said.
"It is not serious but ruled out a start at Forbury Park. It just happened at the wrong time."
Anvils Best Ever has been treated with antibiotics to prevent infection.
The scratching has also affected the chance of stablemate Beaudiene Christian, a winner at Motukarara on Sunday.
"He was set to follow out Anvils Best Ever who was ideally drawn at one. Now he will follow out a maiden horse [Wee Brother]. He will need luck," McGrath said.
The distance of the Forbury Park heat is 1700m.
It has been a mile for five of the past six years, including last year.
Motu Crusader, a last-start winner at Forbury Park, is on the second row.
Trainers Mark Purdon and Grant Payne have won the Forbury Park heat the last two years with Auckland Reactor and Eric's Legend.
They have Miracle Mach and Glenalvon engaged tonight.
