As far as weeks go, Liam Coltman has had a pretty good one for a rugby player.

Start of the week - called into the All Black camp for a couple of days to improve his craft and get to impress Steve Hansen and company.

Middle of the week - go home and get some of mum's cooking.

End of the week - run on to Waikato Stadium and win the Ranfurly Shield for Otago.

Weekend - get to celebrate the win in style.

Coltman, the tough and all-action Otago hooker, said he was over the moon after winning the shield on Friday night.

''It has been a pretty good week all right,'' Coltman said, in the standard front-rower's understated manner.

''I can't separate them [winning the shield and going into the All Black camp]. It's been pretty unreal. A dream come true, really.''

Coltman (23) had a magic game on Friday night, popping up all over the show, and getting his lineout throwing right.

Though yesterday he was feeling the effects of the bumps and bruises from a rugged encounter on Friday night, you could not wipe the smile off his face.

He said the welcome the team received when it returned with the shield soon made him forget the aches and pains.

''Just coming into the airport yesterday and here at the stadium showed the amount of people who really care about the shield.

''It was an unbelievably tough game. The boys were feeling it. But we showed some real ticker in the end there. And we pulled it out in the end.''

He admitted to having grabbed a few hours sleep over the weekend but was ready to switch focus and keep a hold of the Log o' Wood.

''We just need to get out there and defend it. Hopefully, we can get a big crowd and help us out.''
