Christmas Day community lunch

Rachel Reed puts the finishing touches to her Christmas tree as she and the rest of the Reed family — husband Craig Reed, and children Albie, Fred and Walter Reed — once again open their hearts this festive season to host a free community lunch on Christmas Day at the St Clair Bowling Club.

The Reed family are welcoming people from all walks of life who may be alone this Christmas to join them at the bowling club, which is next door to their St Clair home.

Mrs Reed said the tradition started with the previous owners of the house, Sandra and Trevor Mason.

The challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic had meant it had not been able to run in recent years so it was a welcome change to be able to bring the tradition back.

Local businesses and individuals were helping out, including providing transport options, food, non-alcoholic drinks and volunteering on the day.
