Dunedin firefighters (from left) Martin Hastie, Paul Helm, Aimee Taylor, Greg Ewing, Glen Roberts and Mark McEntyre are fired up for the return of the Emergency Services Christmas Food Bank Can Appeal, after last year’s collection had to be drop-off only due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Co-ordinator senior firefighter Aimee Taylor said emergency services staff and volunteers will take to the streets from 6pm to 8.30pm over two nights, with

collector vehicles following fire, police, civil defence and ambulance vehicles.

"It is a combined effort with all the emergency services," she said.

They planned to visit Dunedin East and West Harbour suburbs on Thursday, December 1, and a second collection night on Monday, December 5 would visit Abbotsford, Fairfield, Green Island, Brighton and Mosgiel.

Cans were destined for Dunedin foodbanks run by Saint Vincent de Paul, Presbyterian Support and the Salvation Army. Cans could also be dropped off at the foodbanks.
