Curator Sean Brosnahan said her life, from her birth in Scotland through to her death in Invercargill, was marked by both tragedy and adventure, making her an outstanding example of a pioneering woman in 19th century New Zealand.
The tour will be led by acting registrar Beth Rees and Jane Macknight, manager of collections and exhibitions.
Ms Macknight said the tour would move through the galleries, sharing stories that highlighted the lives and contributions of women, before offering participants a behind-the-scenes look at objects in the museum’s research centre.
"The tour is a set of personal insights about other women’s lives, objects created by or worn by women — that have resonated with myself or Beth personally during our time working at Toitū."
The tour will be held tomorrow, from 2pm to 3pm, at the museum.
