Twelve overseas journalists will descend on Dunedin today to sample some of the city's tourism attractions and the visit is expected to generate tens of thousands of dollars in publicity for the region.
The two-day visit involved the largest contingent of media to be hosted by Tourism Dunedin, chief executive Hamish Saxton said.
Journalists from Canada, Australia, Korea, China, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Singapore will visit a range of attractions, including tours of Cadbury Confectionery, Speight's Brewery and the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.
Articles about the trip would appear in a number of newspapers, magazines, guidebooks and travel publications, publicity worth "tens of thousands of dollars" for the region, Mr Saxton said.
It was a reflection on Dunedin that a large media contingent wanted to visit, he said.
The visit is funded by Tourism New Zealand and is a precursor to the annual tourism trade event, Tourism Rendezvous New Zealand (Trenz), which will be held in Auckland next week.
The visit will end tomorrow with a dinner at Larnach Castle, and the group will then head to Christchurch.
