CODC candidates to answer questions

Central Otago voters will have at least three chances in the next three weeks to quiz the district's mayoral candidates and see how they perform on the campaign trail, starting tonight.

Incumbent mayor Tony Lepper is seeking a second term and former district councillor Lynley Claridge is challenging him for the top job.

They will take part in forums in Cromwell and Alexandra in the lead-up to the election.

The first electoral forum will be held in Cromwell tonight, having been arranged by the Cromwell Lions Club and Cromwell Rotary Club, at the Golden Gate, starting at 7.30pm.

As well as the mayoral aspirants, Central Otago District Council Cromwell ward candidates, Cromwell Community Board candidates and contenders for the Otago Regional Council's Dunstan Constituency have also been invited.

Central Otago Grey Power has organised another mayoral forum, in Alexandra at St Enoch's Church hall on Wednesday, September 25, from 2pm.

The Otago Daily Times and Otago Chamber of Commerce have also joined forces to host mayoral forums, on Wednesday, October 2.

The first will be held at Cromwell at noon in the Otago Polytechnic Molyneux Restaurant and the second at Alexandra at 5.30pm at Centennial Court Motor Inn.

Voting documents will be posted out from September 20-25 and voting closes at noon on Saturday, October 12.
