Discussion of land use

More intensive land use and its possible impacts on Central Otago will be the centre of discussion at a meeting in Alexandra next week.

Members of the public are invited to voice their views on the issue, for development of an issues and options paper for the Central Otago District Council's District Plan review.

Speakers from Federated Farmers, Otago Regional Council, planning and surveying consultant BTW South, and environmental groups will attend the meeting, to be chaired by Mayor Tony Lepper.

Topics which may be covered include irrigation, consents, water quality and biodiversity.

Mr Lepper said the meeting was an opportunity for the public to hear what was being done to protect Central Otago, its residents' way of life and the ability to create a future for the region.

The meeting will be held at the Alexandra Community Centre, Skird St, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 3.
