A Moeraki home was gutted by fire on Thursday night, despite efforts by three fire brigades with about 20 firefighters to save it.
The Palmerston, Moeraki and Hampden fire brigades were called out to the fire at the unoccupied, two-bedroomed wooden crib in Tenby St about 9.15pm, but the building was well alight when they arrived.
Palmerston Deputy Chief Fire Officer Kelvin Clearwater said yesterday the fire had spread quickly through the interior of the house, except for one room which had a closed door.
The blaze was out by about 10.30pm.
Hampden police were attempting to contact the owners.
