An "overwhelming" number of Wanaka businesses are behind a fundraising event being held tomorrow to benefit the families of the Pike River mine tragedy.
Wanaka restaurant McGregors on Reece will hold the fundraising function tomorrow afternoon.
Managers Rozel Taylor and Andrea Christie are encouraging local residents to share in the spirit of Christmas to support the Pike River fundraiser.
The event will include auctions, raffles, live entertainment and activities for children such as lolly scrambles and an appearance by Santa Claus.
Ms Taylor said she had been blown away by the support of local businesses, which have contributed various goods to a planned charity auction.
More than $4500 worth of goods, gifts and vouchers had been donated, with items ranging from ukuleles to lingerie and bikes to powertools, she said.
Local musicians, including band Alibi, saxophonist Pat Pihama, Paul Tamati, and crooners Paddy and Bernie Sugrue, will perform from noon, before a sit-down Christmas dinner in the evening, Ms Taylor said.
