The public is invited to have its say on whether it wants the Otago and Southland District Health Boards to merge. A public consultation will be held tonight at 7.30pm at the Wakatipu St John, in Douglas St, Frankton.
A Southland board spokeswoman said the meeting would be attended by the boards' chief executive Brian Rousseau, Otago board chairman Errol Millar, Southland board chairman Paul Menzies and the boards' deputy chairwoman, Susie Johnstone.
After a presentation, the public will have the opportunity to ask questions on the proposal.
Health Minister Tony Ryall had previously said it would be up the people of Otago and Southland to decide if they want one health board covering both regions.
The District Health Boards are inviting written feedback from the public about the proposed merger, which can be done by sending a written submission to one of the boards or by filling out an online questionnaire at the website http://feedback.osdhbs.govt.nz/.
Those who do not wish to give their feedback in writing are urged to attend the meeting and state their views, which will be recorded.
