Manager Mark Ryan said the day was about acknowledging the hard work put in by frontline workers throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
About 50 staff working as nurses, caregivers, housekeepers as well as kitchen, garden and maintenance staff were thanked, and a noticeboard had been filled with messages of thanks from residents.
Summerset general manager operations Eleanor Young said the day was celebrated across all 32 retirement villages managed by the organisation.
"Frontline staff like ours are often unsung heroes."
The staff provided crucial services to more than 7400 residents across the company, from maintaining homes and cooking meals to providing care to residents who were no longer able to live independently.
"Our frontline staff members have been exceptional in their dedication and service to our residents during the heights of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"They’ve gone above and beyond to ensure the health and safety of our residents and fellow staff. This day is an opportunity to show our gratitude and appreciation for their tireless efforts."
