Boost from travel writers

Dunedin and Clutha will be promoted by seven travel writers, who will spend this weekend experiencing what the destinations have to offer.

New Zealand Travel Communicators has organised the tour, with support from Tourism Dunedin and various operators throughout the city and Clutha district.

Sharon O'Loughlin, of Tourism Dunedin, said each writer was expected to publish articles about the tourist attractions, heritage, food, landscape and culture of Dunedin and Clutha in top New Zealand publications.

The national communicators group organised a tour for writers each year, she said.

''This year, it's Dunedin and Clutha so we get two bites of the cherry, and we're pretty stoked about that. The itinerary is packed with just about every facet there is, because the writers are from different publications so we needed to provide a broad and comprehensive view of the destinations.''

Writers would walk around central Dunedin and get a feel for the city's historic architecture, visit the Otago Peninsula, taste some of the best food in the city and experience the Saturday Otago Farmers Market at the Dunedin Railway Station.

Tourism Dunedin chief executive Hamish Saxton said the organisation was delighted to host the writers.

''This is a unique chance to showcase our city to this group of travel writers, who aim to be spreading the word about the exceptional activities and experiences Dunedin offers visitors to the city.''
