New tourism head in city on tour of centres

Kevin Bowler's wish list appears relatively straightforward.

The new Tourism New Zealand chief executive wants more people to come to New Zealand, wants them to stay longer - and, most importantly, wants them to spend more money.

The 46-year-old was in Dunedin this week to talk to tourism industry representatives as part of a main centre tour, and was in Queenstown last week when rising lake levels threatened the resort.

"I am a big fan of Queenstown, but that was looking quite worrying."

Mr Bowler said he would like to increase New Zealand's market share of tourists from China and the United States, but the country would need to be selective about its marketing.
