Road realignment near new stadium begins

Work on the State Highway 88 re-alignment around the Forsyth Barr Stadium, in Dunedin, began in earnest yesterday, with diggers moving on to what will become the site of a new roundabout.

Dunedin City Council project engineer Evan Matheson said yesterday initial work involved salvaging and recycling the concrete slabs under buildings that had been demolished.

That was expected to take six weeks, after which road-building, and the construction of a 60m-long, 16m-wide three-span bridge across the Leith, would begin.

The city end of the Ravensbourne cycleway would be closed during the $24.7 million project, though there would be access off Parry St.
