About 40 primary, intermediate and secondary school pupils competed in the Lions Zone 4 speech competition held on Sunday.
The judges commented on the high standards, particularly in the year 9 and 10 section.
Results were.-Year 5 and 6: Courtenay Cottier (Oamaru North) 1; Sharleah Morley (Oamaru North) 2; Kalas Taukamo (Oamaru North) and Emma-Kate Newlove (Oamaru North) equal 3.
Year 7 and 8: George Keen (East Otago) 1; Lucy Bell (East Otago) 2; Ashley Gaze (Oamaru Intermediate) 3.
Year 9 and 10: Tui Sinclair (St Kevin's) 1; Molly Farrell (St Kevin's) 2; Jibi Kunnethedam (St Kevin's) 3.
Year 11 and 12: Albert Hailes (St Kevin's) 1; Maeve Ryan (St Kevin's) 2; Lori Kingan (St Kevin's) 3.
