Seventeen years ago Deborah Coburn realised her dream - opening Collective Hair Design, a hair and make-up business which helps clients realise their dreams.

Born and bred in Queenstown, Mrs Coburn travelled to England, where she got her first taste of the film industry, completing a one-year film make-up course.

The hairdresser quickly saw Queenstown's potential as a destination for films, commercials - and weddings.

"We specialise in weddings ... we have amazing stylists, a strong team for hair-ups and Smashbox Cosmetics, which are specifically used for photography and film work.

"We've always had that association with photography - Jax [Still Vision Photography owner Jackie Gay] started her photography through here."

The newly refurbished salon now boasts a staff of 10, including three make-up artists, and is open six days a week, serving primarily the local Queenstown clientele.

Bridal parties form a large part of the salon's work.

"Queenstown has got such unique potential ... as a wedding destination.

"There are more and more celebrities wanting to come here and wanting to get married here - people don't harass them like they do overseas."

Mrs Coburn, Ms Gay and Trudy Munro, of Nemo Workshop, have teamed up to offer one lucky married couple the opportunity to "re-celebrate" their wedding, in a competition which closed this week.

The winning bride will have a bridal hair and make-up make-over and have her dress fitted by Nemo Workroom, with the couple travelling to a location of their choice for a photo shoot with Still Vision.

Mrs Coburn said the decision to organise the competition was an easy one.

"I've seen situations over the years where there have been accidents, injuries, illnesses, things that have really compromised the wedding day.

"I can think of a couple of really sad situations where you just knew the photography wasn't going to be that lasting memory they had wished for.

"I just thought it was a wicked idea ... utilising all of our skills and putting together a team to recapture that moment."
