The result for the All Whites defender was a heroic goal that snatched a miraculous equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Slovakia at their soccer World Cup match at Rustenberg in South Africa.
That magical moment in the dying seconds of the match helped New Zealand secure their first ever World Cup point in their Group F opener.
Reid popped up to glance a header past Jan Mucha that went in off the foot of the post to bring the All Whites level after Robert Vittek had put Slovakia in front five minutes after halftime in what had been a fairly pedestrian contest in the first 45 minutes.
Reid, 21, admitted he had erred when Slovakia slotted their goal after he had misjudged a cross in the cold and windy conditions at the Royal Bafokeng stadium.
"He (Vittek) was in an offside position, I let him go and then he slipped back and the cross was hit well and went over my head -- maybe I should have done better," Reid said.
With time running out and the All Whites throwing themselves into attack, striker Shane Smeltz sent a cross in from the left where he had been operating for much of the second half.
Reid ghosted through the defence and rose at the far post to nod the ball home.
"Actually, I didn't see the ball until late and then I saw it as coming towards me," Reid said when he was asked to relive the dramatic moment.
"I was just trying to guide it and not give it too much pace and it came off."
