Athletics Taieri athlete Ben Baines prepares to launch the javelin in the inaugural Yvette Williams Memorial Meet at the Caledonian on Monday night. The two-hour meet also included long jump, high jump, shot put, hurdles and running events.

Athletes from Dunedin, Christchurch, Central Otago, Invercargill and Hamilton competed. Williams, who was from Dunedin, was the first New Zealand woman to win an Olympic gold medal and held the world record in women’s long jump.
