Robyn Swale said she was sent an eviction notice from the Dunedin City Council telling her she had until noon on June 18 to return the keys to her Taieri Rd flat to the council.
She was being evicted for feeding ducks, she said.
Council housing officer Graeme Dixon had twice caught her feeding ducks outside the flat, she said.
Ms Swale, who had lived in the flat for 12 years, said she wanted to continue living there.
''I can't resist giving them rolled oats and water and as soon as they are old enough to fly, I stop.''
She cleaned up any mess the ducks left behind, she said.
She had nowhere to move to, she said.
She had considered going to Nelson to be close to her daughter, but she doubted she was healthy enough to make the move.
She would go to the Tenancy Tribunal to try to stay in the council flat, she said.
''I will never, ever feed another duck. I won't even look at them.''
Council flat neighbour Anne Coulthard (57) said flat residents had started a petition to try to keep Ms Swale in her flat.
Many of the tenants fed the ducks outside their flats, she said.
Mr Dixon said he had been told not to talk to the Otago Daily Times.
Council communications manager Graham McKerracher said the letter was not an eviction notice but a ''90 days to vacate the property'' notice. If Ms Swale had not moved out of the flat after 90 days, she would not be physically evicted - the case would be referred to the Tenancy Tribunal.
Ms Swale had been asked several times to ''cease and desist'' feeding the ducks but had not stopped, he said. Another resident had complained.
He could not recall anybody being evicted from a council flat for feeding ducks, he said.
