Columba College pupils between years 7 and 13 gave a gold coin donation to dress in Amnesty International colours - yellow and black yesterday.

Teachers Kathryn Riepl and Alan Williams and college pupils at the Dunedin school were supporting Amnesty International's campaign to get New Zealand to double its quota of refugees.

About $650 was raised for the international nonprofit organisation, Mrs Reipl said.

The organisation wanted the Government to consider increasing its quota of refugees from 750 people a year to 1500.

''We want John Key to show some heart,'' Mrs Riepl said.

Year 7 pupil Grace Togneri (12) said she dusted off a bee costume to show her support.

''It's a costume I wore in a year 3 musical,'' she said.
