Man brutally attacked by teen girls

A Hamilton man was held captive for over an hour, repeatedly beaten, stripped of his clothing and gagged by a youth and four teenage girls, one as young as 13.

The five are to appear in Hamilton Youth Court after the incident at an inner city apartment early on Saturday morning.

They face charges of grievous bodily harm, assault with a weapon, threatening to kill and theft.

The adult victim was at the apartment, when the five turned on him and held him captive for over an hour, police said in a statement.

He was repeatedly beaten and his clothes were stripped off -- some of which were placed in his mouth as a gag, police said.

He was abused, degraded and parts of his hair cut off before he managed to escape.

He suffered a fractured cheek and severe bruising. He has been discharged from hospital and was recovering at home.

Police said it was concerning that four of the five offenders were female.

"This was a seriously violent incident with these young girls being involved in an offender role."
