Pupils driven up wall to raise $14,000

Mt Aspiring College's recent Aspiring to Everest Climbathon raised $14,000 for new laptops at the school.

It was held at Basecamp during October's Wanakafest and supported by members of the public, Willowridge Developments and Infinity Group.

During the 24-hour event, pupil climbers continually scaled the climbing wall to match the 8848m height of Mt Everest within 16 hours.

They then set out to "climb" 3033m Mt Aspiring and achieved their goal.

As part of the bid, principal Wayne Bosley spent the duration of the climbathon suspended high on an outside ledge, exposed to the elements.
